I had that model for a while, then I was a boss, and realised I wanted to help people where they wanted to go and get the best out of them. I realised this from managing someone so different from me, different personality completely, that the only way to get on with her was recognise her qualities and how they differed from mine, and what her value was to the team. Putting aside my personal feelings. Passing judgement on her would not have helped. Maybe managers pass judgement much less than one thinks.
